Caring for your silk
Mulberry silk is a natural protein fibre — treated gently, it grows softer and more luminous for decades. A few unhurried habits are all it takes.
01 Washing
- Hand-wash in cold water (max 30°C) with a pH-neutral silk detergent. Submerge, swirl softly for a few minutes — never rub or wring.
- Machine only if you must: delicate cycle, inside a mesh laundry bag, cold water, low spin.
- Keep silk away from chlorine bleach and fabric softeners — they break the protein fibre and dull the shine.
02 Drying
- Press excess water out between two clean towels — gently, without twisting.
- Lay flat or hang on a padded hanger away from direct sun and radiators. Silk dries quickly and prefers gentle air to heat.
03 Ironing & steam
- Iron inside-out on the lowest (silk) setting through a cotton cloth while the fabric is still slightly damp.
- A garment steamer on low is the kindest way to release wrinkles — keep 10–15 cm of distance.
04 Storage
- Store on padded hangers or folded with acid-free tissue, in a breathable cotton bag — never in plastic.
- Give silk space and shade: a dark, dry wardrobe protects the colour and the drape.
A note from the atelier
If you are ever unsure, less is more: cooler water, softer touch, shorter time. Silk forgives gentleness — and rewards it with years of life. For any care question, write to us at hello@disibrand.com.
